From Concept to Certification: How MERSETA are Shaping Future Leaders in the Plastics Industry.
How long did it take to develop the training program?
The trade qualification development began in 2020 as an MERSETA-funded research project. By June 2025, the first group of learners is expected to attempt the trade test. The pilot project took place in August and September 2024, during which time Mafeku Tsiu from Marley’s Training and Development served as an assessor.
Whose idea was it?
MERSETA’s Plastics Chamber, which addresses industry-specific needs, initiated the development of this trade qualification.
How did Marley get the opportunity to get involved?
As an Extrusion Specialist, Mafeka Tsiu submitted his qualifications and experience for consideration and was selected as a member of the Technical Working Group.
How does this program benefit the Plastic industry?
Firsthand insight into the assessment criteria can better prepare future learners. This initiative enhances employee skills, ensuring companies like Marley maintain high product quality and industry leadership. Additionally, learners with plastics manufacturing experience gain a competitive edge over those from metal manufacturing.
